These Boots Are Made For Posing

Posing for me today was the flamboyant and vivacious Alison.

This was our first meeting, as has been the case with so many of the models participating in this project.

Alison had chosen to bring something colourful to the session - with her hot pink boots and matching earrings. She is also wearing a bandana.

The model, more drawings of whom can be seen here, reminded me of Matisse and Delacroix - who both featured exotic women wearing turbans in their work.

The Three Graces

Earlier this week I had a visit from three very stylish and interesting ladies who, very appropriately, had named themselves The Three Graces.

We had a really enjoyable and interesting day.

Barbara

Barbara visited today to sit for me.

It was a very sociable day, and we completed three drawings.

Strength

Yesterday's model worked extremely hard.

There was one pose in particular where her head was turned away, and her body leaning back. She had to use her strength to maintain this pose, and to stop her body naturally leaning back further.

Also, the weight of the head can be difficult to hold for even a short period of time when tilted in this way.

You can see the results of that particular pose in the top drawing above.

I have to work fast and intensively, as the pose cannot be held for long. The model has to exert herself to hold it. This is a great example of teamwork in producing a drawing from life.

Sessions

This week I've had two more drawings sessions with two more wonderful models.

Composition

I had the pleasure of working with another inspiring new model today.

My recent drawings seem to have been mostly in a 'portrait' format, and during this session I made a conscious decision to work wider - with the model reclining.

The day began with the pencil drawing above, and I then moved on to pastels.
