Plush 2010

I'm exhibiting again at Plush this year.

All of the work I'm showing is previously unexhibited.

These include a number of archive items, which I've just had framed up - and also some paintings from my most recent trip to Tresco in May - June.

The details are shown above, and you can visit the Art @ Plush website here.

I was thrilled that Lesley came back for a second session - this time in the studio.

She came up with two interesting poses, which were a challenge for both of us.

Gill Reading

Gill visited today for a second session.

She managed to get some reading done as she sat, and we got three good paintings out of the day, despite a power cut in the studio.

Alison Again

Alison came for her third visit yesterday.

It is very fulfilling to start to get to know a model well.

This means that you begin to understand the way in which you can work best together. I really feel the work benefits from this experience, and I think this shows in the latest paintings.

This week I've spent over £1,000 on paint, pastels and other art materials at the annual Bird & Davis sale. It has to last me a year.

I was also visited by my latest model - Jo, which gave me a chance to get the new pastels out. We worked very hard together, and the pastels don't look anything like as neat and tidy now as they did in the photograph above.

There are two places to which I am particularly attached as a painter.

The first is the river Stour in north Dorset, and the second is the seashore at Osmington on the Dorset coast. I visited Osmington so frequently over the last three years that some of the locals began to know me as The Osmington Girl. I was back there today.

Both places offer a degree of seclusion and quiet, but there are enough visitors to each spot to set them apart from the wilds and to add interest.

See both of today's paintings here.

In The Studio

Alison and Nicky have recently returned as models.

They're the first models from the group to work with me in the studio, using oils.

It has been a while since I've worked in oils from the figure, and both models have agreed to come back again some time later in the summer now that I'm broadening my work in this discipline.
